Simple Tips to Make Your Space Photo-ready
There’s something magical about in-home lifestyle sessions; they capture your family’s story exactly where it happens. Your favourite coffee mugs, that cozy couch corner, the kids’ art taped to the fridge; it’s all part of your beautiful, real life. But before I come knocking with my camera, here are some easy (and stress-free!) ways to get your home ready.
1. Focus on the spaces we’ll use most
You don’t need to deep clean every square inch of your home. Just tidy up the rooms we’ll be photographing. Usually that includes the living room, master bedroom, and maybe the kitchen or nursery. Clear away clutter from countertops, nightstands, and floors, but don’t worry about perfection, lived-in is lovely!
2. Let the light shine
Natural light is our best friend. Open those blinds, pull back the curtains, and let the sunshine flood in. If it’s gloomy outside, don’t panic—cozy, moody light can be just as stunning.
3. Add a touch of “you”
Fresh flowers, a cozy throw blanket, or your favourite coffee table book can make the space feel warm and personal. These little details tell your story without feeling staged.
4. Hide the distractions
TV remotes, laundry baskets, rogue socks, and yesterday’s snack wrappers—let’s tuck those away for the day. Your photos will feel cleaner and more timeless without background clutter.
5. Don’t stress over perfection
Your home doesn’t have to look like it belongs in a magazine. In fact, it’s the realness; the well-loved couch, the kitchen where pancakes happen; that makes these photos so special.
Your home is the backdrop to your story, and the goal isn’t to make it look perfect, it’s to make it feel yours. So fluff a pillow or two, open the blinds, and then relax. I’ll handle the rest.
